Zelenskyy will refuse to sign the agreement on subsoil without clear security guarantees for Ukraine
President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy will not sign the addendum to the mineral resources agreement unless the document clearly specifies security guarantees for Ukraine.
This was reported by The Economist magazine, citing government sources.
According to the publication’s information, the Ukrainian president intends to definitely obtain security guarantees before signing the agreement. In addition, the agreement should clearly define the control mechanism for the fund being created, where the revenues from the extraction of Ukrainian mineral resources will go.
The publication also reminds that the agreement must clarify issues regarding the control of the fund, which, according to the draft agreement, will be jointly managed by the USA and Ukraine. This issue remains open, as the latest version of the draft agreement only mentions abstract points.
