Under restrictions are more than half of the tankers of Russia’s shadow fleet - Vlasyuk

"The sanctions package announced by the United Kingdom is painful because it includes 40 tankers from the shadow fleet. This is a significant number. Thus, along with the European Union sanctions imposed on February 24th and the Canadian sanctions on February 25th, we now have over 300 tankers of the Russian shadow fleet under sanctions, which is more than half of those transporting Russian oil, which is a good result," Vlasyuk said.

He noted that a noticeable blow to the Russian tanker fleet was the sanctions package implemented by the United States on January 8th of this year.

"Regarding the sanctions package implemented by the Biden administration on January 8th concerning the tanker fleet, a recent news item reported that (the head of the Russian Central Bank) Elvira Nabiullina assessed its impact (on the Russian economy — ed.) at 1-1.5% of GDP," said the Presidential Commissioner for Sanctions Policy.

He also recalled that on the third anniversary of the invasion, additional sanctions packages against the aggressor country were implemented by the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, and Canada.
