The Metro to Vynohradar: the previous contractor must return 140 million to Kyiv

LLC "Kyivmetrobud" was supposed to continue the construction of the metro line to Vynohradar. However, instead of carrying out the work, the company placed the money on a deposit and earned well from it: now all the interest must be returned to the capital’s community.

The Supreme Court made a final decision in the case concerning the return of almost 140 million UAH by LLC "Kyivmetrobud" to the Kyiv budget. This contractor was supposed to continue construction of the metro line to Vynohradar, but instead placed funds on a deposit and received significant interest. Now the prosecutor’s office has achieved the return of this interest to the city community.

The decision of the Supreme Court is reported by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office. Law enforcement officials stated that the Supreme Court put an end to the case filed by the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office for the recovery of over 139 million UAH from the company that was supposed to build the metro from Syrets to Vynohradar. Prosecutors filed the corresponding lawsuit in court as early as 2021.

"The case was repeatedly reviewed by the courts. In April and October 2024, the Commercial Court of Kyiv and the Northern Commercial Court of Appeal fully satisfied the prosecutor’s claim and decided to recover the accrued interest from the contracting organization to the capital’s budget," the prosecutor’s office stated.

However, disagreeing with these court decisions, the contractor appealed them to the Supreme Court, which denied the association’s cassation appeal and upheld the decisions of the lower courts. Thus, LLC "Kyivmetrobud" must now pay 139 million UAH to the capital’s budget.
