Senior officials of US President Donald Trump held private negotiations with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and his team following an incident in the Oval Office to "steer the talks in the right direction."

This was reported by CNN, citing sources.

Trump’s representatives emphasized the need to stabilize relations with the White House as soon as possible and urged the Ukrainian side to resume talks before the President’s address to Congress.

It is reported that among those who contacted Volodymyr Zelenskyy was the US Special Representative for Ukraine and Russia, Keith Kellogg.

A White House official told CNN that the agreement between the US and Ukraine regarding rare minerals has not yet been signed.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who is involved in the negotiations, noted that the signing of the agreement before Trump’s speech is not anticipated. Meanwhile, a White House representative stated that the Trump administration is confident that negotiations to renew the mineral extraction agreement are "moving in the right direction."

According to the official, Trump, who plans to address issues of armed conflicts abroad, including the war between Ukraine and Russia, seeks to announce achievements in agreements regarding Ukrainian natural resources.
