The case regarding the defence of Kharkiv region: Colonel Lapin was released under house arrest

On January 20, 2025, the State Bureau of Investigation and the Security Service of Ukraine detained three officers on suspicion of failing to protect the Kharkiv region during the Russian attack in 2024.

The court changed the preventive measure for Colonel Illya Lapin in the case of inadequate defense of the Kharkiv region – he was released under house arrest. This was reported by the press service of the Office of the Prosecutor General.

"Following the prosecutor’s motion, the court decided to change the measure from custody to round-the-clock house arrest with the possibility of leaving the residence for medical treatment," the press release states.

The Office of the Prosecutor General emphasized that they petitioned for the change in the preventive measure. This was justified by the fact that Lapin is elderly, has many illnesses, and his health condition is deteriorating.
