Democrats in the lower house of the U.S. Congress on Monday introduced a bill aimed at supporting Ukraine in its war with Russia.

This is reported by Reuters.

The bill to support Ukraine, which will provide security and recovery funding for Ukraine and impose strict sanctions on Russia, was introduced by the lead Democrat of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, Gregory Meeks.

It is reported that the bill, which has not yet been made public, was introduced by the Democrats two weeks after both parties in the Senate proposed strict sanctions against Russia should it refuse to engage in good faith peace negotiations with Ukraine.

Congressional aides who contributed to the drafting of the bill believe that its provisions will appear in any final major package regarding Ukraine, even if the document itself does not receive support in the House of Representatives, where Republicans hold the majority.

“Obviously, this bill will become part of the legislative discussion,” said one of them.

The document consists of three sections and provides greater support for Ukraine than the Senate’s Ukraine project.

The first section reaffirms U.S. support for Ukraine and NATO and includes measures aimed at assisting Ukraine in recovery, including the creation of a special coordinator position for these matters.

The second section provides for assistance to Kyiv in the field of security, among other things – direct loans and military financing.

The third section concerns the implementation of strict sanctions and export controls against Russia, including financial institutions, the oil and mining industries, and officials.
