Drivers are being prepared for new fines up to 34,000 hryvnias

The Verkhovna Rada has prepared a number of amendments to the current legislation, which provide for the introduction of new fines for motorists. The amount of some fines will increase to UAH 34,000, reports SUV News.

First of all, deputies plan to abolish the "non-fine" threshold of 20 km/h for speeding violations. Currently, drivers are not penalized for exceeding the speed limit within this range. Legislators believe that this leads to abuses by unscrupulous drivers. Removing the "non-fine" threshold of 20 km/h will promote discipline among motorists.

Members of parliament also plan to legislatively limit the allowable noise level for vehicles. Motorcyclists and owners of powerful cars will have to pay UAH 17,000 for engine roars within populated areas. For repeat violations, the fine will double to UAH 34,000.

They also propose to ban drifting in populated areas. Street racers will be fined UAH 8,500 for dangerous maneuvering. For repeat violations, the fine will double to UAH 17,000 with the revocation of driving rights for up to one year.

The Rada is also concerned about safety problems on Ukrainian roads in winter. To improve the situation, a draft law on the mandatory use of winter tires from December 1 to March 31 has been prepared. Violators are proposed to be fined from UAH 340 to UAH 8,500.

Later this year, an automatic system for recording red-light violations will start operating in Ukraine. The already installed traffic violation cameras will receive this new function, according to the State Institution "Center of Infrastructure and Technology of the Ministry of Internal Affairs." The fine for running a red light will be UAH 510.
