The death of a 5-year-old boy during tooth extraction: the suspect has enlisted in the Armed Forces of Ukraine

Lviv anesthetist Iryna Poda, who was charged with the death of five-year-old Veles Pashnyk during dental treatment, has been mobilized for military service. Her defenders have filed a petition to suspend the proceedings in the case.

The father of the deceased boy, Viktor Pashnyk, believes that the doctor is trying to avoid criminal responsibility in this way.

According to him, Iryna Poda was mobilized through a recruitment center.

"Of course, this is a way to avoid punishment and responsibility," Pashnyk noted.

The defenders of the suspect aim to halt the case proceedings. The relevant petition from the doctor’s lawyers still needs to be considered by the court.

According to the law, mobilization for military service is a basis for suspending the proceedings in the case. Therefore, while the doctor is in service, the statute of limitations will be running out, the publication notes.

Recall that in January 2024, five-year-old Veles Pashnyk died in Lviv. During an operation to remove baby teeth under general anesthesia in a private clinic, his heart stopped.

For more than a month, the boy was in the pediatric intensive care unit in a deep coma. However, later, doctors confirmed brain death — saving the child was not possible.

In February, the anesthesiologist was charged with improper performance of professional duties. She faces up to 5 years in prison.

According to the investigation, the anesthetist did not have the proper education, qualification for working with children, or the necessary experience.
