The Russian Federation has started using FPV drones-"zhduny": camouflaged UAVs attack from ambush in Sumy region

Russian operators have started landing their FPV drones under radio control, waiting in ambush for the target to approach.

To implement this tactic, the adversary equips UAVs with special mounts, stated Ukrainian radio technology expert Serhiy Beskrestnov (Serhiy Flash) on his Telegram channel.

The expert emphasized that previously, the Russians similarly used drones with fiber-optic communication. For a regular FPV drone, this tactic is more complicated, as the device requires a direct radio channel for takeoff from the ground.

According to a serviceman of the 117th Separate Territorial Defence Brigade, Oleksandr Takula, "waiting" drones were spotted in the border villages of the Sumy region. The occupiers place them on roads, paths, or just in gardens. When a person or vehicle appears near the UAV, it takes off and attacks.

"They sit and wait for the target. And the target is peaceful residents trying to move their belongings or just going out to their garden," the serviceman explained.
