Almost half of Odesa has been without water for the second day: people are standing in queues

Odesa has been without water supply for the second day in a row. The reason is a major accident on the main water pipeline. The damage occurred in a hard-to-reach area, complicating repair and restoration work. Water delivery to residents has been organized in the city. Also, residents have lined up at water kiosks. The water utility reports that the repair is expected to be completed no earlier than the evening of June 13.

As reported by the "Infoksvodokanal" branch, the situation is complicated by the location of the accident - "a field, eroded soil, and mud." To reach the problematic area and start restoration work, "it took almost a day" to construct:

• access roads;
• a site for heavy machinery work.

"Unfortunately, the situation is very difficult. ... Our workers excavated a trench, reached the damage site, and began restoration work. According to preliminary estimates, they will continue until 10:00 PM," the message says.

There are also water kiosks with drinking water operating in the city. Citizens are asked to bring containers for collection.

What happened to the water in Odesa

The accident at "Infoksvodokanal" was reported at noon on June 12. They noted that the damage occurred in a hard-to-reach area, complicating the repair and restoration work.

"There is already a large lake at the damage site, which continues to grow, and mud up to waist level. Because of this, crews and equipment cannot fully excavate the pipe. We have been forced to stop the operation of some pumping stations to empty the pipeline," they said at the water utility.
