In Kyiv, law enforcement officers discovered “voluntary assistants” of the Ministry of Internal Affairs service centers. The fraudsters were producing fake driver’s licenses and car documents that appeared “genuine” but cost a few hundred dollars. The business thrived until the criminal figures caught the attention of the police.

The detection of Kyiv residents who organized the printing of fake documents right in their homes was reported by the capital’s police. It concerns a group of elderly people who created a full-fledged underground workshop for the production of counterfeit driver’s licenses and technical passports. As it turned out, the organizer was a 62-year-old Kyiv resident who involved a 61-year-old resident of the Kyiv region and a married couple aged 54 and 56.

The husband and wife made the forgeries at home using special equipment and holographic film. The documents appeared visually credible, and the fake could only be detected through official state databases. According to information from the Kyiv City Prosecutor’s Office, clients were offered both new licenses and options with additional categories or “extended” validity.

The price for such services ranged from 400 to 450 dollars. The finished documents were sent by mail throughout Ukraine, and clients were found through personal acquaintances, without public advertising. Incidentally, this was handled by the oldest member of the group – a 62-year-old resident of the Kyiv region, who used “word of mouth” to distribute the forgeries.

During searches, law enforcement officers seized printing and laminating equipment, blanks, holographic elements, and draft records. Three out of the four group members were detained immediately, and two of them had preventive measures in the form of detention with the right to bail chosen by the court, while two others were placed under round-the-clock house arrest. All the figures received suspicion of charges related to the forgery of official documents committed by an organized group, which threatens them with up to 12 years of imprisonment.
