President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy signed a decree on the termination of Ukrainian citizenship of Orest Berezovsky, known as Metropolitan Onufriy — the head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate (UOC-MP).

This was reported by the Security Service of Ukraine.

According to the SSU, Berezovsky voluntarily obtained citizenship of the Russian Federation in 2002 without notifying the Ukrainian authorities. Despite this, he continued to enjoy the rights of a Ukrainian citizen.

The special service notes that Onufriy maintains ties with the Moscow Patriarchate and deliberately obstructed the acquisition of canonical independence by the Ukrainian church. Even after the start of the full-scale war of the Russian Federation against Ukraine, he remained loyal to the Russian Orthodox Church and its head Kirill (Gundyayev), who openly supports armed aggression.

The SSU emphasizes that it continues to take measures to protect state sovereignty and counteract the influence of Russian religious and propaganda structures.
