Metropolitan Onufriy reacted to being stripped of his Ukrainian citizenship: intends to defend his rights
The UOC claims that Onufriy has never requested citizenship from other countries. Journalists suggest that the head of the church might be proposed for a prisoner exchange with Russia.
Church representative Klyment in an interview with "Suspilne" reported that Metropolitan Onufriy has only a Ukrainian passport, and he has never approached other countries, including Russia, with a request for obtaining other citizenships.
According to Klyment, Metropolitan Onufriy intends to defend his rights as a citizen of Ukraine and has all the grounds to appeal this decree. He added that the decision to revoke citizenship "might raise certain legal doubts."
At the same time, TSN, citing sources in law enforcement, reports that the head of the UOC MP might be proposed for a prisoner exchange with Russia to liberate Ukrainian defenders. At least, insiders assert that such an option "cannot be ruled out."
"If a person is deprived of Ukrainian citizenship, then theoretically such a candidate can be considered for an exchange," law enforcement sources told journalists.
