Yuriy Nikolov: The detention at NABU is the first public step by the authorities against anti-corruption
The Security Service of Ukraine and the Office of the Prosecutor General detained one of the heads of the interregional departments of NABU detectives, Ruslan Magamedrasulov, on suspicion of conducting business in Russia.
This happened after a series of searches in various regions of Ukraine due to the alleged Russian influence on certain NABU detectives.
The reason for this "blow to NABU" was explained by Yuriy Nikolov, editor of the project Nashi Groshi.
When Trump became president – it was immediately felt at NABU. The Americans immediately withdrew funding for the international auditors’ commission, which at that time was checking the legality of Kryvonos’s position as director. With great difficulty, the "mighty" Europeans closed the loss of a fighter, but it became clear – NABU would no longer be an indicator of democracy and the fight against corruption for the Americans. Because these criteria meant nothing to Trump, if not being outright detrimental. Therefore, after losing external legitimacy, only internal legitimacy remained. It was a matter of time and technology before Zelenskyy’s people would strike at it. Today might be the first public step. The SSU conducted 80 searches for "neutralizing Russian influence" and only detained one regional detective whose father lives and thrives in Russia. Full of toxicity, pure PR.
We can expect continued targeted attacks on NABU and SAPO to hit exactly those areas that make Ukrainian corrupt officials panic. Since the norm shifts with every societal perceived excess – we can expect even wilder excesses. Wilder in the sense of even fewer pieces of evidence, even larger scale of attacks. Little Russia will not build itself.
