At this time, official recognition of a rollback in "candidate reforms" from the EU has been expressed only regarding Georgia. In response to Tbilisi’s anti-democratic turn, Brussels froze its engagement with Georgia in the accession process. Marta Kos also reminded of this consequence.

"European Pravda" has learned about the content of the negotiations between the EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement, Marta Kos, and the new Deputy Prime Minister for European Integration, Taras Kachka, regarding the reduction of powers of anti-corruption bodies.

As "EuroPravda" has learned, on July 22, Kos conveyed to her Ukrainian counterpart that the European Commission is firm in its conclusions regarding law 12414: it not only hinders the independence of the National Anti-Corruption Bureau (NABU) and the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAP) but also contradicts the commitments outlined in the Roadmaps, which Kyiv and Brussels agreed upon as part of the preparations for the negotiations.

According to Kos, the EU also considers the adoption of this law "as a rollback in the implementation of the seven recommendations of the EC, which were a condition for Ukraine’s candidate status."

At this time, official recognition of a rollback in "candidate reforms" from the EU has been expressed only regarding Georgia. In response to Tbilisi’s anti-democratic turn, Brussels froze its engagement with Georgia in the accession process.

Therefore, Marta Kos reminded Kachka of this consequence.

"This step will have serious consequences for the entire negotiation process regarding Ukraine’s accession to the EU. Already, member states are expressing concerns that it was the right decision not to rush into opening cluster 1," she stated.

All other interlocutors in the EU, with whom "EuroPravda" communicated even before the law was signed, come to the same conclusion: if Volodymyr Zelenskyy signs the law (which he has already done), it would mean the freezing of Ukraine’s accession process to the EU.

Possibly, the screening of the last cluster will be completed, but the opening of substantial negotiations for accession is impossible.
