Ukraine may face a shortage of funds to finance the army in 2025, — Pidlasa

This year, Ukraine may not have enough funds to finance the army.

This was stated by the head of the budget committee of the Rada, Roksolana Pidlasa.

«There is a possibility that new changes will be introduced to the 2025 Budget in the fall to increase spending on the national security and defence sector», she wrote on Facebook.

At the same time, according to Pidlasa, to find funds for additional military expenses, it is necessary to first reach agreements with the EU regarding the use of funds under the ERA loans program (funds allocated to Ukraine from the revenues of frozen Russian assets) for defence needs.

That is, the budget deficit in the military sphere is planned to be covered by money initially intended to support financial stability and other civilian needs. For this, it will be necessary to obtain the consent of the participants in this program.

In addition, there remains a budget deficit for the next year due to uncertainty about Western aid. «The uncovered need for external assistance, that is, funds yet to be found, concerns only 2026 and amounts to $18.1 billion», Pidlasa reported.
