Several representatives of the US Democratic Party in Congress, reacting to reports of the death of Russian opposition leader Oleksiy Navalnyi, called for a package of additional aid to Ukraine.

Politico drew attention to this.

Democratic Senator John Fetterman, commenting on Navalnyi’s death, said that members of the US House of Representatives who are blocking aid to Ukraine "can enjoy another high-five for Putin, who just killed his loudest and most visible critic."

And House of Representatives member Bill Keating said the event "underscores Putin’s brutal authoritarian rule" while House Speaker Mike Johnson refuses to bring the Ukraine funding package to a vote.

His colleague Bill Pascrell called Russian President Volodymyr Putin a "mass-murdering war criminal" and said former President Donald Trump "openly encouraged Putin to attack America’s allies while Republicans are blocking aid to Ukraine."

Republican lawmakers also responded to Navalnyi’s death by criticizing Putin but making no mention of aid to Ukraine, Politico writes.

At the same time, Speaker of the House of Representatives Johnson emphasized that the United States and its partners “must use all available means to deprive Putin of the opportunity to finance his unprovoked war in Ukraine and aggression against the Baltic states.”
