Patriot in service: how to continue the February "air raid" of the Russian Aerospace Forces
The Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is using all means to destroy carriers of guided bombs of the Russian Armed Forces. Patriot systems operate in front-line areas, but they cannot cover the entire battle line. The media spoke with aviation specialists and found out which air defense systems can clear the sky of enemy fighters.
The Russian army is attacking units of the Ukrainian Armed Forces with guided aerial bombs (CAB) and air missiles in different directions, creating considerable problems. One of the main reasons for the fall of Avdiivka was the massive use of gliding bombs. The Air Force of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is using all available means to destroy tactical aviation of the Russian Federation and carriers of guided bombs, said the commander of the Armed Forces of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, Lieutenant General Mykola Oleshchuk.
Anti-aircraft missile units, including the Patriot air defense system, continue to carry out combat missions in front-line territories. Ukrainian pilots also destroy the invaders every day, even without the F-16 fighters promised by the West.
“The defenders of the Ukrainian sky are paying a high price to deter the aggressor and destroy him in the air, on land and at sea,” the commander emphasized.
Despite the professionalism of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, the threat of glide bombs is increasing. The Russian Armed Forces possess various types of such bombs, and some of them have increased flight ranges. The most powerful Russian shells are the one and a half ton FAB-1500, almost half of which consists of explosives.
The intensity of CAB strikes has not decreased since the beginning of March, but has taken on a wave-like form, emphasizes the coordinator of the Information Resistance group, military expert Oleksandr Kovalenko.
In the first third of March, he estimates, 799 CAB discharges were made, and the record month was February - more than 1,500 units.
“If almost 800 bombs were dropped in 1/3 of a month, then over the next 2/3 of a month at such an intensity the figure could reach a new record - more than 2,000,” the expert warns.
