In the Vinnytsia region, the National Police shut down a drug supply channel to a correctional facility

A 33-year-old native of the Zhytomyr region, who is serving a sentence for extortion and drug crimes in Vinnytsia region, organized drug trafficking to places of imprisonment. Two of his accomplices, his wife and an acquaintance, were at large. They were responsible for finding illegal substances and sending them to the prison, disguising the psychotropics in parcels.

According to the investigative department, the suspects engaged in criminal activities for several months.

The 46-year-old suspect was involved in finding and purchasing amphetamine and PVP salts. The 45-year-old woman packaged the psychotropics, hid them in clothes and food products, which she later sent to her husband in prison. The forbidden substances received were further distributed by the organizer of the drug trafficking among convicts in the place of imprisonment.

During searches at the residences of the suspects and in the penal institution, investigators and operatives seized evidence of their criminal activities.

Based on this fact, investigators from the investigative department are investigating proceedings under Part 2 of Article 307 (Illegal production, manufacture, acquisition, storage, transportation, transfer or sale of narcotic drugs, psychotropic substances, or their analogs) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.

Operational support of the pre-trial investigation is carried out by employees of the Security Service of Ukraine in Vinnytsia region, together with operational units of state institutions "Stryzhavska correctional colony (No. 81)" and "Vinnytsia correctional colony (No. 86).

Under the procedural guidance of the Vinnytsia regional prosecutor’s office, the investigators informed all three suspects of the suspicion. The court chose a preventive measure for two of them - detention with the right to post bail.

The sanction of the article provides for up to 10 years of imprisonment with confiscation of property.

The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
