Border guards detained four men in the mountains who were heading to Romania
On Christmas Eve in Bukovina, four men from the Zaporizhzhya region were detained as they planned to cross the border with Romania.
This was reported by the Chernivtsi Border Guard Unit.
"The operational personnel of the Chernivtsi Border Guard Unit received advance information about the possible illegal crossing of the state border from Ukraine to Romania by a group of individuals," the Bukovinian border guards reported.
The group of "tourists" was detected using technical equipment in the area of the ’Selyatyn’ Border Guard Service on Christmas Eve, December 24. The border guards noted that the men were well-equipped. They were walking on a mountain road to the Ukrainian-Romanian border in camouflage suits with backpacks.
"Shortly thereafter, the response group, together with employees of the SSU in the Chernivtsi region, caught up with and detained four men who were moving along the mountain slope. The offenders were identified as residents of the Zaporizhzhya region aged 21, 23, 39, and 44, who admitted to intending to illegally penetrate into Romania," stated the Chernivtsi Border Guard Unit.
Their journey in extreme conditions was meticulously prepared: they had food, water, warm clothing, masking equipment, and means for traveling through snowy areas.
All the detainees were taken to the unit for processing of administrative materials under Article 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, "Illegal crossing or attempt to illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine."
