Defending Ukraine, the commander of the 37th Marine Brigade, Volodymyr Stohniy (Zolotyi), was killed in action

In the battles for Ukraine, the commander of the 1st Battalion of the Marine Corps of the 37th Separate Marine Brigade, Senior Lieutenant Volodymyr Stohniy with the call sign Zolotyi, was killed.

This was reported by the brigade and the rector of Lesya Ukrainka Volyn National University, Anatoliy Tsyos.

It is noted that Volodymyr Stohniy began his combat path in 2015 and carried out combat missions in the ATO sector, and later in the JFO. Since the beginning of the widespread invasion, he served in the 60th Separate Mechanized Brigade, holding the position of reconnaissance platoon commander.

The warrior personally participated in many difficult battles during the de-occupation of the right bank of Kherson region and in the defense of Bakhmut, repeatedly saving his comrades, carrying wounded soldiers from the battlefield, and was himself wounded in one of the numerous battles.

Later, he served in the 82nd Separate Air Assault Brigade as a reconnaissance company commander. In the fall of 2024, he joined the 37th Brigade, temporarily acting as the commander of the 1st Marine Battalion, after which he officially assumed the position of battalion commander.

"As a battalion commander, he often participated in battles alongside his soldiers, demonstrating a steel character and courage, serving as an example for others. He sincerely loved Ukraine, was proud to be Ukrainian, deeply understood the culture and history of his native land, believed in our victory, and made every effort to bring this day closer."

As noted by the university’s rector, Volodymyr Stohniy died from severe wounds. He was a student of the Faculty of History, Political Science, and National Security at the university.
