The airport in Lviv might open as early as the end of spring, — CEO

The Director of the Danylo Halytskyi International Airport "Lviv", Tetyana Romanovska, noted that under an optimistic scenario, the first airport in Ukraine could resume operations as early as this spring, reports the publication "Vysokyi Zamok".

In her opinion, with a positive outcome of ending the war in April-May this year, the Lviv International Airport "Lviv" could be opened for aviation flights. Other possible dates for opening the skies are in the summer.

Romanovska added that in Lviv, 5-7 airlines are ready to operate within a month of the terminal’s launch. The Ukrainian government is also considering opening another airport in the west of the country - the Uzhhorod airport.

"Airlines like Wizzair, Air Baltic, Turkish Airlines, Sky Up, Austrian Airlines, Lufthansa, and LOT are ready to fly from Lviv. This refers to the resumption of regular flights from Lviv. Charter flights are likely to be attempted to be renewed by Sky Up. They have a good network of routes in Europe. These routes are ready to be operated from Lviv or another Ukrainian city. This year, representatives of the airline have already contacted us, conducted their audits. Wizzair representatives conducted their audit last year. They are conducting preliminary analyses, and when there is a decision to reopen the skies, they will come to us to operate within three or four days," she said.

The Director of the "Lviv" airport noted that she would like the airport opening to take place during the summer period since the main aviation traffic falls during vacations, summer, and when the days are longer.

"If this happens in April or May, it will be extremely good for us," she concluded.
