The Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office (SAPO) reported a new trend — suspects in corruption cases are massively mobilizing into the Armed Forces of Ukraine to avoid criminal liability.

«Currently, 48 people have mobilized into the Armed Forces of Ukraine on their own initiative after the indictment was sent to court. Because of this, the consideration of cases is suspended, and the statute of limitations is approaching, which increases the risk of avoiding punishment,» SAPO said in the message.

The prosecutor’s office cited the example of the former head of the State Fiscal Service, Roman Nasirov, who attempted to mobilize at the final stage of reviewing the bribery case. This maneuver was unsuccessful but highlights the scale of the phenomenon.

According to current legislation, individuals whose cases are being heard in court have the right to mobilize. The consideration of their cases is suspended for the duration of their service.
