The Verkhovna Rada wants to restore mandatory military training for medical and pharmaceutical professionals, — media
In the Verkhovna Rada, a draft law No. 13276 has been registered, which provides for mandatory military training for students of medical and pharmaceutical specialties. The initiator is a group of MPs led by the head of the VR Committee on National Health, Mykhailo Radutskyi.
This is reported by the Judicial-Legal Newspaper.
What is proposed:
-
Amend Article 11 of the Law "On Military Duty and Military Service".
 -
Require students of medical and pharmaceutical specialties who are fit for service to undergo a full course of military training under the reserve officer program of the medical service (41 ECTS credits).
 -
Oblige universities of all forms of ownership to provide such training.
 -
Expand the network of departments of military medicine and disaster medicine.
 -
The Ministry of Health will have the right to approve military registration specialties and training volumes in the medical field.

Why this is important:
Currently, only 5% of medical students undergo military training, mostly at their own expense. The need for specialists for the Armed Forces’ military medical units is growing. The draft law aims to eliminate the shortage of personnel and prepare reserve officers of the medical service for appointment in a special period.
The Cabinet of Ministers is proposed to organize the creation of the necessary number of military educational units within six months.
