"Streets of Death" and drones over the roads: the situation in Kherson is rapidly deteriorating, — volunteer
The situation in Kherson and on the right bank of the region controlled by the Armed Forces of Ukraine is deteriorating at an incredible speed, notes the activist from Kherson, Yuriy Antoshchuk.
The southern streets of the city, which were passable just a year ago, are now becoming "streets of death." Villages that were easily accessible a year and a half ago are now turning into unreachable or "ghost villages."
Drones have already begun to attack the highway connecting Kherson and Mykolaiv regions. They also regularly appear near the entrance stele in Kherson.
A few months ago, there were about a thousand drone attacks recorded in Kherson each week, and now their number exceeds one and a half thousand.
Anti-drone nets have only recently started to be installed in Kherson, "Electronic Warfare Systems (EWS) will not be able to protect us globally, as enemy MLRS can strike entire areas and, if necessary, use several guided bombs to eliminate any obstacles and threats."
Every six months, the list of localities in the region and parts of Kherson where mandatory evacuation is announced continues to grow. Many stores have closed, and people are forced to search for food under the threat of shelling. There are emerging problems with water and heating. In autumn, the situation may worsen due to butterfly mines, which may be scattered throughout the city and hidden under fallen leaves. Volunteers are gradually leaving the region.
"Where exactly to evacuate and what to do next is a separate question. Kherson residents have adapted to daily threats, but it’s impossible to get used to this. The only thing that supports us is the Dnipro River and the Defense Forces. Numerous measures are being taken, but given the dynamics of the expansion of the so-called red zone, there is little optimism left," writes Antoshchuk.
