The commander of the military unit in Rivne forced subordinates to build a house for him – SBI

Employees of the State Bureau of Investigation detained and charged the commander of one of the military units in Rivne, who forced subordinates to build him a house.

This was reported by the press service of the State Bureau of Investigation.

The official involved three servicemen in the construction work - two drivers and an electrician. They carried out repair work on his house in the Lviv region. Meanwhile, "on paper," the servicemen remained at their deployment location in Rivne, and thus the state paid them a monthly allowance.

The investigation found that the construction has been ongoing for over 1.5 years - since March 2024. During this time, more than 1.3 million hryvnias have been paid from the military unit’s budget.

"On September 17, 2025, during searches at the construction site, two of the aforementioned servicemen were found. They have now returned to their official duties. Another of the ’builders’ has been serving in the Sumy region since July. In addition, during the searches, law enforcement officers found certificates of appreciation intended for subordinates, which the commander issued ’for diligent service,’ although everyone understood that they were carrying out his separate assignment in the Lviv region," the State Bureau of Investigation noted.

The commander was detained and charged under Part 2 of Article 28 and Part 5 of Article 426-1 of the Criminal Code (abuse of power by a military official leading to grave consequences, committed under martial law, by prior conspiracy by a group of persons). The court selected a preventive measure for him in the form of detention with the possibility of posting a bail of 1.3 million hryvnias. The sanction of the article provides for up to 12 years of imprisonment.
