Zelenskyy: Russia could have used tankers to launch drones in the Baltic Sea

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy reported new details suggesting that Russia may have used tankers to launch drones in the Baltic Sea.

He announced this during an online address at the Warsaw Security Forum.

These drones have already caused significant problems in Northern Europe. If Russia is using tankers as platforms for drones, then these tankers should not be allowed to operate freely in the Baltic Sea.

“This is effectively Russian military activity against European countries. Therefore, Europe has the right to close straits and sea routes to protect itself,” he said.

Ukraine offers to create a joint shield with Poland, whose territory has been penetrated by drones from Russia.

"Ukraine proposes to Poland and other partners to build a joint, truly reliable shield against Russian threats. This is possible. Ukraine can combat all types of Russian drones and missiles. And if we act together in the region, we will have enough weapons and production capacity for this. If Russia loses the ability to strike from the air, it will not be able to continue the war," the president added.

He called the attack on September 10 not just an attack on Poland, but also on NATO. Ukraine is ready to share its military experience in shooting down all types of Russian UAVs.

During his speech, he congratulated Moldova on the victory of the pro-European party of President Maia Sandu in the elections and urged Europe to continue supporting this country.

Drones in European countries

On September 10, during a massive Russian attack on Ukraine, 19 Russian drones entered Polish territory, and the country decided to shoot them down. This was the first instance of downing such targets, although isolated missiles and drones had previously entered the territory. A few days later, drones flew into Romania, but it did not shoot them down, and they returned toward Ukraine.

After that, a series of flights by unidentified unmanned aerial vehicles occurred in various countries: Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, and Germany. It is unknown who is behind this, but the involvement of Russians is not ruled out.

Following the incidents in Denmark and Norway, which were the first, the European Commission stated that there is a threat to infrastructure.
